Our yoga shala is an open-air space surrounded by tropical greenery, with the sound of the ocean nearby. It comfortably welcomes up to 40 participants for yoga, meditation, breathwork or group sessions, and is equipped with yoga mats and props. Bathed in natural light and sea breeze, it’s an inspiring setting for morning and sunset practice.

Eco practices

Built with natural local materials like wood and palapa roofs, Cocolia runs on solar energy, treats and reuses water, composts and recycles, and avoids single-use plastics with refillable water stations. We use biodegradable products, offer linen and towel reuse, source food locally, hire local staff, and partner with local projects, including turtle conservation.

Description

Cocolia is an adults-only boutique hotel with 28 bungalows in Mazunte, a small beach village and Pueblo Mágico on Oaxaca’s Pacific coast. Surrounded by tropical greenery steps from the sea, it offers retreat groups a calm, intimate setting to disconnect while staying close to the relaxed energy of the area.

Our 28 private bungalows comfortably host groups of different sizes, so a retreat can have the property largely to itself (up to 56 pax). Facilities include yoga shala, 2 salted pools, one restaurant with vegetarian/vegan options and one mezcalería.

We have hosted group retreats before and full buy outs, and our team understands what organisers need: flexible scheduling, dedicated spaces for practice and gatherings, coordinated meals and personal support before and during the stay.

Mazunte is known for its wellness-oriented community, unspoiled beaches and sunsets at Punta Cometa, a short walk from the village. Groups can enjoy seasonal whale and dolphin watching, sea turtle encounters, boat trips, snorkelling and the nearby beaches of San Agustinillo and Zipolite.

Huatulco and Puerto Escondido airports are each about an hour away by road.

Bedrooms

Cocolia has 28 private bungalows, each with an en-suite bathroom and a king-size bed that can be converted into twin beds, ideal for retreat participants sharing a room. All bungalows have ceiling fans and open views of the ocean or the surrounding jungle. As an adults-only hotel, we have no family rooms. We provide linens and towels and local organic amenities.

Bathrooms

Each of our 28 bungalows has its own private en-suite bathroom with a shower open to nature, so guests can bathe surrounded by tropical greenery and fresh sea air. Bathrooms are stocked with biodegradable amenities, in line with our eco practices. There are no bathtubs, keeping the focus on a simple, natural experience close to the jungle and the ocean.

Cleaning

Our housekeeping team cleans every bungalow daily. Bed linen and towels are changed every three days, as part of our commitment to saving water and energy, and can be refreshed sooner on request. Our cleaning products are biodegradable.

Catering

Our on-site restaurant and Mezcalería prepare fresh, seasonal meals inspired by Oaxacan flavours, using ingredients from local producers. Retreat groups can choose full-board or tailored meal plans, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options and care for allergies. Menus and meal times adapt to your programme, and we can arrange group dinners, snacks and special celebrations.

Kitchen and Dining room

Our on-site restaurant seats up to 60 guests at the same time, or hosts up to 90 people for standing receptions and celebrations. All meals are prepared by our kitchen team. Guests who prefer privacy can also enjoy in-room dining: each bungalow comfortably accommodates two people for meals, and in-room service is available.

Outdoor

Cocolia sits on a hillside in Mazunte, nestled among lush tropical greenery and jungle with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Guests can relax at our two swimming pools, surrounded by nature, or unwind at Contemplar, a peaceful spot to pause, reflect and take in the views. Paths wind through the gardens, offering quiet corners for rest, reading or connecting with the group.

Things To Do Nearby

Watch the sunset from Punta Cometa, a short walk away, or visit the Mexican Turtle Center in the village. Take a boat trip to see whales (Dec–Mar), dolphins and turtles, or snorkel nearby. Explore the mangroves and crocodiles of La Ventanilla lagoon, and the beaches of San Agustinillo and Zipolite. Mazunte also offers yoga studios, natural cosmetics workshops and local cafés.

Parking

Cocolia offers private, open-air parking on site for all our guests, with space for up to four minibuses. Access for large coaches is limited due to the road to the property, so we recommend arriving by car, van or minibus. We are happy to help organisers plan group transfers from Huatulco or Puerto Escondido airports.
