About the property

This old farm house in a forest is a perfect place to retreat with a group of up to 19 people. The haystack we turned into a big yoga studio. There are 6 comfy bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and a big pool.

Vidovina was renovated specifically for yoga and other retreats. The studio is where the hay loft used to be. It measures 70m2 and fits 19 people. Its smooth concrete floor is covered by a beautiful terracotta roof, and it is open on two sides to let the light and the breeze from the garden come in. There is plenty of yoga-gear (mats, blocks, cushions, straps) available.

Eco practices

Vidovina was renovated using local vintage material wherever we could. All soaps and detergents we provide are ecological to support our biological sewage system. And of course we separate trash.

Description

Welcome to Vidovina, a farmhouse retreat tucked into the Apennine hills between Bologna and Florence.

Originally built as a farmhouse in the 1940s and carefully renovated since 2015, Vidovina remains true to its roots: spacious, functional, and authentic. You won’t find marble bathrooms here—its real luxury lies in the forest setting, the vast open spaces, the deep privacy, and the kind of star-filled skies you rarely see anymore.

This place has a way of slowing people down. Many arrive with plans to explore cultural treasures nearby, but soon they’re gathering wood, building a fire, and gazing into the distance with a sigh of relief. With no distractions from phones or busy schedules, Vidovina invites you to reconnect—with nature, with yourself, and with others. Days quickly fall into an ancient rhythm: rising with the sun, resting at midday, and losing track of time altogether.

The renovation was designed with retreats in mind. The former hay loft now holds a 70 m² studio with a new floor perfect for yoga. A big pool and five bathrooms make post-class showers smooth and easy, while six comfortable bedrooms sleep up to 19 guests. A full set of yoga props is ready for everyone.

Food here is as nourishing as the setting. This region is renowned for its culinary traditions—organic vegetables from farmer Giorgio, fresh fruit from nearby orchards, and wine from the surrounding vineyards ensure every meal is a celebration of local abundance.

Bedrooms

Vidovina has 7 bedrooms: 2 quadruples, 4 triples and 2 doubles. In addition there are 2 childrens beds that can be placed anywhere. All 22 beds are all made with clean white linens.

Bathrooms

Vidovina has 5 bathrooms, ranging from a luxury bathroom with shower and bathtub to a more simple shower/toilet. All bathrooms have modern showers and toilets.

Cleaning

We work with a team of cleaners who normally come between groups, but we can arrange cleaning during retreats upon request.

Catering

We have two catering options: a private cook and a caterer. Both make great local dishes - for breakfast, lunch and dinner - on demand. The caterer is the well-known restaurant Locanda Cardello.

Kitchen and Dining room

The kitchen offers plenty of granite countertop, a 6-pit stove, a dishwasher and plenty of fridges. Plus enough dishes and cooking gear to make anything you like for a big group.

Outdoor

There's a 50m2 pool, big terrace tables, huge lawn, fireplace, swing/hammocks, and plenty of games. The house is located in the middle of the forest, meaning you'll have loads of space around you.

Things To Do Nearby

Explore hiking and biking trails in the surrounding 'Gypsum Vein Park', spot wildlife in the woods, or wander vineyards nearby. Swim in the river or village pool, visit Casola’s historic abbey, herb garden, and local festivals, taste wines at family vineyards, or simply build a fire, and enjoy the night sky. For the culturally inclined, eat your heart out in Bologna, Florence or Ravenna.

Booking Conditions

Vidovina can be booked for 4-30 days. Up to 20 yoga gear sets (mat, block, cushion, strap, blanket) are provided for free. Services like catering, transport, and massages can be sourced locally. We have a 20% non-refundable deposit upon booking. Apart from that, cancelling is free up to 2 days before arrival.
