Our 15m geodesic dome provides a spacious indoor centre for yoga, ceremonies, workshops, circles and group gatherings. It offers a unique, peaceful setting protected from the elements for 40 - 60 people. all yoga mats and cushions are provided, while the estate’s gardens and outdoor areas provide additional spaces for movement, meditation and open-air sessions.

We operate with respect for the land, using our heritage buildings, gardens and natural surroundings thoughtfully. We encourage low-waste practices, mindful water and energy use, local sourcing where possible, seasonal ingredients, reduced single-use items, and invite guests to join ongoing planting and farming activities on our land.

Solar de Alcains by Under Domes is a private heritage estate in Alcains, near Castelo Branco, in Central Portugal. Set within peaceful countryside, gardens, olive trees and historic architecture, the property offers retreat organisers a calm, elegant and inspiring setting for meaningful group gatherings.

The estate is centred around a historic Portuguese mansion with characterful accommodation, indoor gathering areas, dining spaces, outdoor terraces, gardens and quiet corners for reflection. The atmosphere is private, warm and deeply peaceful, making it suitable for retreat leaders who want their guests to step away from noise, crowds and everyday pressure.

Solar de Alcains can host yoga retreats, mindfulness retreats, wellness and wellbeing retreats, coaching intensives, women’s retreats, creative workshops, leadership retreats, family retreats, cultural experiences and intimate group events. The property is ideal for organisers seeking exclusive use of a private estate rather than a standard hotel environment.

Guest accommodation is offered within the mansion, with rooms suitable for single or shared occupancy depending on the retreat format. Indoor spaces can be used for workshops, circles, talks, meditation, dining and group sessions, while the gardens, terraces and surrounding countryside support movement, relaxation and reflection.

Meals, hospitality support, local coordination, transfers, excursions and supplier recommendations can be discussed according to each group’s needs. The surrounding Central Portugal region offers a quieter, more authentic alternative.

Bedrooms

Solar de Alcains offers 14 characterful guest rooms within the heritage mansion. Bedrooms can be arranged for single or shared occupancy, with a mix of double, twin and flexible room options depending on the group format. Some rooms are suitable for couples or family-style use. All rooms are ensuites. We have two family sized rooms that sleep 4 comfortably.

Bathrooms

All our rooms are ensuites with showers in every room. There are seperate bathrooms to support the pool area as well.

Cleaning

Cleaning can be arranged before, during and after each retreat according to the group’s needs. Guest rooms, bathrooms, common areas, dining spaces and gathering areas are prepared before arrival, with additional housekeeping support available during the stay. Final cleaning after departure can also be included or discussed as part of the venue arrangement.

Catering

Catering can be arranged according to each group’s retreat style and dietary needs. We can support wholesome group meals, vegetarian and wellness-focused menus, local Portuguese flavours, seasonal ingredients, and special dietary requests where possible. Meal plans, snacks, drinks and dining arrangements can be discussed in advance with each organiser.

Kitchen and Dining room

Our dining room can accommodate 24 guests, our patio can accommodate up to 16 guests and our large terrace can fit up to 50 guests

Outdoor

Solar de Alcains is surrounded by peaceful countryside, gardens, olive trees, stone terraces and open skies, creating a calm outdoor setting for retreats and group gatherings. Guests can enjoy multiple garden areas for relaxation, meditation, outdoor sessions and informal connection. Outdoor seating and garden furniture can be arranged, with space for al fresco dining, and social gatherings.

Bookings are confirmed once agreed in writing and the required deposit is received. Deposits are non-refundable. Balance payments must be made by the agreed due date. Cancellations must be made in writing and may incur charges depending on notice period and costs already committed. Final terms are confirmed in the booking agreement.
