Ratnakara has a stunningly beautiful and tranquil yoga shala on the first floor of the villa looking out over verdant jungle and the Indian Ocean beyond. We are happy to loan yoga equipment (mats, bolsters, block and straps) for those who do not have their own. The shala is light, airy and spacious and can accommodate up to thirty mats.

- all our ingredients are sourced - and usually also grown/raised/caught - locally
- we recycle where possible although unfortunately this is difficult in Sri Lanka
- we strive to minimise the use of plastic eg using metal straws

Description

Ratnakara is an exclusive retreat venue villa on Sri Lanka’s most Southerly tip near Dondra Head Lighthouse. Its name is an ancient Sanskrit word for the Indian Ocean, the literal translation is “the creator of gems” or “mine of gems”. Perched on the edge of the Indian Ocean, Ratnakara retreat venue is a modern day jewel.

A hillside paradise, Ratnakara was built in 2012 nestling in tropical trees above a small sandy bay and offers five large, luxury en-suite bedrooms with further accommodation available in an adjacent annex. The design which mixes colonial features with modern, open-plan living has created a private, secluded property which is the ideal place in which to relax and recharge. With its spectacular infinity pool extending out in to the jungle, tranquil roof garden, large private balconies and extensive terracing, Ratnakara will nurture you with its healing powers of calmness and space; the perfect environment for rejuvenating a tired soul.

Ratnakara is an impressive and private venue for retreats and events. The house comes with a full compliment of staff to meet your every need including a butler/house manager and your own private chef.

An ideal location for an intimate team building retreat, private yoga retreats, etc, at Ratnakara, we provide a relaxing and tranquil environment to allow you to focus on your students’ progress whilst our lovely staff take care of everything else.

Ratnakara has a variety of inside and outside spaces which are perfect for holding classes, meetings, workshops and performances including a shady roof-garden, a stunning large first-floor yoga shala and extensive terracing. And don’t forget the 60ft pool!

Bedrooms

Amethyst, Amber, Garnet and Emerald are large ensuite bedrooms each with two king size doubles. Sapphire is a large triple with three singles. There is also a further double and a twin in the annex.

Bathrooms

All our rooms have ensuite shower rooms. Some also have bath tubs.

Catering

Ratnakara comes with a full compliment of staff including a private chef who will cook to your specific menu/dietary requirements - subject to the availability of ingredients locally of course.

Kitchen and Dining room

As well as chef's kitchen, there is a large fully-equipped guest kitchen should you wish to prepare your own food. The dining table on the verandah is large enough for all our guests to eat together.

Outdoor

As well extensive terracing, plenty of sunbeds, outdoor lounge areas and a spectacular 60ft infinity pool we have two beautiful treatment rooms equipped with massage tables and private showers.

The nearest bus and train stations are in Matara which is approximately 15 minutes by road from Ratnakara. Local buses run to within .5 km of the villa.
