Our spacious temple/seminar room accommodates up to 15-20 participants. Filled with natural light from large pane opening windows by, it’s fully equipped with yoga mats, pillows, straps, cushions, blankets, and sound system—ideal for yoga, meditation, workshops, or group sessions.
Eco practices
We recycle glass, paper, and plastic, and compost organic waste using a worm-fed system that nourishes our garden and fruit trees. Solar panels power our hot water, and we actively conserve energy to maintain a sustainable, eco-conscious retreat environment.

Description
Nestled in the serene Algarve valley of Portugal’s southern region, Moinhos Velhos is one of the country’s most established retreat centres, designed to support transformation, wellbeing, and community. Surrounded by a nature reserve and crystal-rich hills, it offers a tranquil setting ideal for wellness, yoga, creative, leadership, or spiritual retreats.
Our retreat centre features multiple indoor and outdoor practice spaces, a large yoga shala with lots of natural light, fully equipped kitchen and dining areas, pool, Finnish sauna, a wellness clinic and relaxation terraces. We provide comfortable single, twin, and shared cottages, all ensuite and surrounded by lush gardens with Wi-Fi and mountain views. In the cooler months, we have multiple fireplaces for use around the venue.
For over 30 years, Moinhos Velhos has hosted hundreds of international retreats, bringing together facilitators, teachers, and groups seeking meaningful connection in nature. The energy here encourages deep restoration, inspiration, and community.
Located just 15 minutes from Lagos and 1 hour from Faro Airport, the venue combines peaceful seclusion with convenient access to the nearby local towns full of Portugal’s vibrant life and culture. Bedrooms
Comfortable single, twin, and shared rooms with ensuite bathrooms, surrounded by nature. All accommodations include Wi-Fi, linens, and daily cleaning, offering guests peaceful rest and privacy.
Bathrooms
Each cottage features a private or shared ensuite bathroom equipped with modern fittings, fresh towels, and eco-friendly toiletries. Waste paper should be discarded in bins to maintain our toilets.
Cleaning
Daily room cleaning and towel service can be provided at an additional cost. Common areas are maintained throughout the day to ensure a spotless, welcoming environment for all guests.

Kitchen and Dining room
We have two kitchens on site, one a communal open kitchen with a dining space and one adept for private cooking and presentation. Both support large groups and our dining rooms seat up to 15 guests.

Enjoy serene gardens, pool, and sauna surrounded by fruit trees and nature trails. Outdoor spaces include outdoor showers, meditation decks, and large shaded terraces ideal for group activities.

Explore the charming town of Lagos just 15 minutes away, known for its beaches, local markets, and historic streets. Visit the Algarve’s dramatic cliffs, kayak through sea caves, or relax by Meia Praia beach. Nearby hiking trails, horseback riding, and nature walks invite peaceful outdoor adventures. There are also great trails surrounding the center that are easily accessible with great views!

Nearest Airport
Faro International Airport (FAO) – about 1 hour by car or transfer to Moinhos Velhos and 1.5 hour via bus. Lisbon Airport (LIS) is about 3-3.5 hours away by train, car and bus.
Nearest Town
Lagos is the nearest town! It’s a historic seaside town known for golden beaches, cobblestone streets, local markets, and a relaxed Algarve atmosphere. About 15 minutes from the retreat center.
Nearest Station
Lagos train and bus station connects directly to Faro and Lisbon. We recommend arranging taxi or private transfer from Lagos to Moinhos Velhos (around 15 minutes).

Booking Conditions
A 50% deposit is required on booking. Cancellations made over 10 weeks before arrival are fully refundable. Between 10–3 weeks, the deposit is non-refundable. The final balance is due 3 weeks prior to the retreat start date. After the final balance is paid, a 25% refund applies until 1 week before retreat start date. No refund within 7 days.
